It takes a lot of strength and courage to lose weight when you are obese. It takes even more to videotape yourself shirtless to show the world what you have accomplished.
Matt Diaz lost 270lbs over the course of six years. More than half of his body weight. At 16 years old, he was his heaviest: 495lbs.
However, despite the extreme weight loss and his regular exercise, Matt is left with excess skin - a lot of it. Despite his fear of being judged, he took a video of himself to express his advocacy for "body positivity" and self love. For the first time, he was sharing what his body looks like.
"I think it's important that I do, because I want to be open with new people about who I am and what my body is like. I've never done this before and I'm really, really scared, so don't judge too much."
Matt made it clear that it was really difficult for him to get in front of a camera. While he is proud of himself for losing the weight and acknowledges the hard work it took to get to where he is today... he was simply scared. He was on the verge of tears throughout the entire video.
"I'm scared all the nice messages will stop. And I feel this all the time. Whenever I sleep with someone new... whenever I'm at the beach or something and I'm supposed to take my shirt off... I can't."
We are proud of Matt for being brave enough to share his story with the world. We hope he sees the resounding support he is getting from his fans and followers. The video currently has over 400,000 views on YouTube.
